Wendell M. Smith, born in Brooklyn, NY, raised and educated in Hartford, Connecticut and Maplewood, New Jersey. Dartmouth College, B.A. and, M.S. in mechanical engineering , married Margaret (Ginger) McGregor, 5 daughters resident Stamford, Ct;  then Bermuda; now Enfield NH.

Founder and President of  Polestar Ltd - International Consultants and Investors;  actively managing Technology Transfer Group a division of Polestar engaged in licensing and consulting in Security Printing technologies.

 Previously Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of Baldwin Technology Company, Inc. Member of the Boards of Directors of American Maize-Products Corporation, Globe Ticket and Label Company and Bowne & Company, Inc.

Employed Sikorsky Aircraft, Stratford Ct. Development Engineering Group; Barnes Engineering Corporation, Stamford, Ct, Sales Engineer/General Sales Manager, Electro-Optical Equipment;  Baldwin-Gegenheimer Corporation,  Brooklyn NY; led MBO, IPO, and growth from $2.5 M revenues to $250 M with operations in 5 countries renamed Baldwin Technology Co - Printing Press Controls.  Established Polestar Corp. (now Polestar Ltd.) which held the investment in Baldwin and began other investments that continue after leaving Baldwin in 1997.

Acquisitions Mergers and Investments – 25 acquisitions, and 8 investments.  Many as part of  Baldwin and others including Totel Systems, Cognitoy, Impress, PhotoSecure, Burleighfield Arts, Susse Fondeur; also, consulting and coordination on several private company transactions.

 Community, Fraternal and Social Organizations - served on many community and social service boards, such as SACIA, The Forum for World Affairs, Stamford Center for the Arts, Stamford Symphony Society, Stamford Art Association, and the Bermuda Biological Station for Research.

 Wendell and Margaret Smith Foundation - Established the Wendell and Margaret Smith Foundation in 1998 for support to non profit endeavors of various community groups.  The family manages the Foundation and members of the family sponsor support to action projects and organizations in which they have close personal connections.

 Avocational Activities  - as one who enjoys work and play equally, and one who dreams of mastering every activity known, avocations cover many, many areas; travel first - with a business opportunity seen in every trip, sailing – small boats now, previously aboard the yacht Nirvana in races from Bermuda to Fastnet and beyond, golf, tennis, sculpting, writing, and flying.  Special events include; travel to Japan, China, India, Russia, whereby business ventures ensued, Brazil, Hungary, Czech Republic, Iceland, and the North Pole (no business there!!).

Sailing to Portofino, Sardinia, the Spanish Main, Grenada, Virgin Islands, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Belize.  Self published a book, sculpted several busts, wood carved chess set, inventing – numerous inventions - 4 patents, soloing in motor plane and trying to solo in gliders, hang gliding.  And, most significantly, helping (watching) my wife bring up 5 beautiful daughters; and now, the girls and husbands bringing up 10 happy and successful grandchildren.
